Liberal vs. Conservative

Is it easier to be a liberal or easier to be a Conservative? You’re likely to already know the answer to this question. Let’s take a look anyway.

This question has come about due to the National Review article where some 38 self proclaimed Conservatives have banded together for the purpose of getting Donald Trump out as the leader of the Republican race for the Presidency. One of those 38 has even said that if Donald Trump is the nominee for the Republicans, he would vote for Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is a self proclaimed socialist!

Every Republican that has run for President since Ronald Reagan was president has claimed to be a conservative. George H. W. Bush claimed to be a conservative. He was elected to his first term as president because he’d been Ronald Reagans Vice President and claimed to be conservative. His presidency though was run as a moderate and his first term was his only term as he lost in 1992 to Bill Clinton.

In 1996, Bob Dole was the Republican nominee. He brought on Jack Kemp as his VP. Kemp was a conservative. Dole was not and lost to Clinton. In 2000 George W. Bush ran as a conservative. An argument could be made that he was held back by his father being a moderate and it could fall to the son, but the alternatives were fairly limited and Bush had the money. He barely beat Al Gore and Bush turned out to be Conservative with very few variations.

In 2008, the Republicans ran John McCain. He too claimed to be a Conservative but even those unfamiliar with politics knew him to be at best a moderate Republican and an argument could be made that he was a liberal Republican. Just two years earlier he’d been considering changing parties. Obama won, even after Joe the plumber pointed out to Obama on the campaign trail on television that his ideas sounded more like Socialism.

In 2012 Mitt Romney was the Republican nominee. He was the father of government health care having instituted it in Massachusetts while governor. He too claimed to be Conservative but was more moderate. He lost to Obama.

Conservatives win. Moderates do not win. Why elect a moderate Republican when you can get the same thing (or worse) in a Democrat? Do you remember who the last Republican President was that was moderate? Richard Nixon in 1968, father of the EPA. We all remember what happened with him.

Being a liberal is easy. You only need promise to give people everything and call everything a Right. Right to health care. Want to keep your doctor, you can. We couldn’t. Costs will drop an average of $2,500, they went up, and this year a 46% increase not to mention the increased taxes and penalties.

Listen to Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. They both talk about punishing Wall Street where all of the money is. Taxing the rich. Give to the poor. Sounds like Robin Hood. Bernie Sanders wants everyone to have an equal amount and he’s willing to take away from you if he thinks you have more than the next guy. Hillary Clinton says that College should be free and she’ll see to it. She also vilifies the rich. But despite her claims that she was broke when her husband and she left the White House, she is a millionaire.

Even with planned parenthood. Their reason for continuing to fund planned parenthood according to them is because they help women with health care needs. Wasn’t Obamacare supposed to solve that? Planned parenthood receives millions of dollars from the government each year. Then they donate millions to only Democrats. This is the same as the federal government funding the Democrat party.

Sanders and Clinton may make you feel good by saying they will tax the rich and corporations and big oil so that you can participate fairly, but those corporations don’t pay taxes. They write the checks for the taxes and they take the deductions on their taxes, but they don’t pay them. We do. When we buy their goods. If they get taxed more, they just raise their prices so that we pay more to fund those taxes. So when Sanders and Clinton talk about taxing the corporations or the rich, they are really taxing the rest of us.

It’s easy to take other people’s money and give it to someone else. But they don’t take their own money and do that. The government doesn’t earn money, they confiscate money. From you and from me.

Conservatives know that if you want to get people to do better, you provide them the opportunity. Not by punishing others for their hard work, but instead by not hindering everyone’s ability to work and earn more. We all aspire to do better. We want to be comfortable in our retirements when we can’t work any longer. We want our families to do better and be able to earn as much as possible so they can provide for their families. We don’t want big government telling us that we should care about this disease instead of that disease.

When the government takes more of our money we don’t direct our money to the causes that are near and dear to our hearts. Government directs the money for us and as with planned parenthood, to places that benefit Democrats and not the people.  Charitable giving goes down when taxes go up and it goes up when taxes come down.

The Republicans took the House back a few years ago promising to repeal Obamacare and to rein in spending. But one House of congress cannot do it alone. So the people voted the Republicans into the Senate. They still have not curbed spending. Instead they fully funded Obamacare, planned parenthood and increased spending to the tune of $1.3 trillion recently. This is not conservative. Boehner is gone because the people lost faith in him. When you say one thing and do another, you lose. Eric Cantor is a very good example of this when he was voted out during a primary in 2014. Cantor is a conservative but he got caught up in power and didn’t do as he said he would do. He didn’t live up to the standards that the voters expected out of a conservative.

It’s difficult being a conservative even when you are a conservative. Now we have a group of writers for the National Review stating that Donald Trump is not a conservative because he’s not like them. He’s made statements in the past supporting Obama’s stimulus deal, saying he’s pro-choice, and believes taxes should be raised.
I’m sure that all of them are true. But are they true today? If you’ve said something in the past that conservatives don’t believe today, is there no redemption from your past? If that’s the case how did we get Ronald Reagan? Reagan was not only a Democrat, but he was a liberal Democrat! He ran the Screen Actors Guild as it’s president. That is the actors union. A liberal organization. Can only Reagan change but not Donald Trump?

Donald Trump may not be a conservative. He may be a liberal. Or he may not care about anything other than what makes him look good and popular. However, he did serve a purpose.

Trump is the one that brought illegal aliens to the forefront when he said he’d send them back and build a wall. His statement about aliens coming across our southern border being rapists and murderers was true. It was all over the news in the summer of 2014. If he’s not conservative, he at least had the presence of mind to bring up an important conservative cause. The real national security issue, as we’re now seeing even moreso now that we’re being attacked on our own soil by radical Islamic fanatics.

Trump also has made political correctness the butt of jokes. It always has been but now it’s okay not being politically correct.

What may give fuel to the anti Trump fire is his latest stunt of pulling out of the debate on Thursday because Megyn Kelly is not being removed from the moderator panel. Does that remove Trumps “conservative credentials”? We’ll probably see If Trump is the reason for the ratings of the Republican debates being so high or if it’s because people really want a change from the Obama years.

Trump may or may not be conservative. He may be just a showman that’s getting all of the attention. To recognize a conservative, you have to not only listen to what they say but see what they do. They are not going to be perfect.

It’s amazing to me that when the Republican politicians and pundits were worried about Trump running as an independent if he didn’t win the Republican nomination, they hounded him until he agreed to pledge he would support the eventual nominee.. Now that he’s polling well enough to win the nomination, they don’t want to pledge to support the Republican nominee if it’s him. That’s two faced and not the type of thing that a conservative does. So maybe we ought to question the conservative credentials of those writing in the National Review.

It’s easy to be a liberal, but it’s difficult being a conservative. You have to live up to standards as a conservative. The National Review has failed to live up to those standards.

Clinton and Sanders: Race baiting!

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, both presidential candidates, both running for the Democrat nomination,  are race baiting and using a tragedy for political purposes.

At the end of the Democrat debate on Saturday, Hillary used her closing comments to say the following:

“I think every single American should be outraged,” Clinton said. “We had a city in the United States of America where the population, which is poor in many ways, and majority-African American, has been drinking and bathing in lead-contaminated water. And the governor of that state acted as though he didn’t really care. He had requests for help that he basically stonewalled. I’ll tell you what: if the kids in a rich suburb of Detroit had been drinking contaminated water and being bathed in it, there would have been action.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders agreed with Clinton on the seriousness of the crisis, and going one step further. “I think it is also right is to demand the resignation of the governor. A man who acts so irresponsibly should not stay in power.”

The facts are not yet in regarding the Flint River debacle. Heads should roll but it’s not clear who’s head should roll as yet. Sanders calling for the resignation of the Michigan Governor is way too premature. He’s not a resident of Michigan and doesn’t know all of the facts yet. The people of Michigan don’t know all of the facts yet. He’s calling for Michigan’s governor to resign purely for political reasons. He’s a Democrat, the Michigan Governor, Rick Snyder is a Republican. If you want to play politics with this, the city council of Flint is made up of Democrats. In fact, two of the council members are convicted criminals. One for killing someone and another for felonious assault. Should we decide who’s right based on two of the council members history as well as their party affiliation?

Hillary’s comments are particularly egregious. When she said “If the kids in a rich suburb of Detroit had been drinking contaminated water, and being bathed in it, there would have been action.” Is she really so stupid to think that just to harm 56,000 minority residents in one city it’s worth it to harm nearly 36,000 white residents?

If that is really true, perhaps we ought to look at her situation. It’s well known she hates the military and the secret service. Should we assume that her sending Special Access Program  E-mails, which is a classification above top secret, was meant to harm our military, and  intelligence operatives around the world? After all, those E-mails that she recklessly had on her personal server kept in a bathroom closet had E-mail with the SAP classification which is so high that even Congressional Oversight Chairmen don’t have clearance to see.

Here’s pretty much what happened in Flint. Flint, Michigan is located about an hours drive north of Detroit. It’s a poor area. It never really recovered from the financial troubles of the late 1970’s. It has been in financial trouble and the financial trouble became so bad that the Governor appointed an Emergency Manager to oversee the City of Flint’s spending until it was at least back on it’s feet again. The Emergency Manager is not elected, he’s appointed and he basically takes over the running of the city, or school district (if it’s the school district in financial straits) until they are back up and running. The city council has no power over the Emergency Manager. They still do operate, but the Emergency Manager has basically the final say in decision made for the benefit of the city.

Flint’s population dropped to 99,000 citizens in recent years from it’s highs of 200,000 in the 1970’s.

The cost for water from Detroit was getting too expensive. The city council, in 2013 decided to change to a new water system coming online in three years. This new water system would pump water in from Lake Huron, which is north and east of Flint. About a two hour drive.

Detroit decided they’d quit sending water to Flint in a year, even though Flint had notified them they were staying for two and a half more years. So Flint started looking at alternatives and decided on the Flint River as a temporary solution until the Huron system was in place. Detroit then offered a contract to Flint with higher costs for the remainder until the Huron system was in place. Flint decided to stick with the Flint River.

From there it becomes a mess. Water in the Flint River was said to be treated when it wasn’t. Homes were tested because of complaints, and then retested later but found to be fine apparently without notifying that filters were on the second time, which would of course show better readings, and reading some of these things makes it appear as though test results were falsified at times.

The EPA dragged their feet through bureaucracy, until a memo was leaked and now it appears that everyone is just pointing the finger at everyone else so they don’t get blamed. However, three employees of the DEQ  which is the Department of Environmental Quality in Michigan , have been fired, and the director forced to resign. Today, an official with the EPA has resigned. That’s four state officials (workers) and one Federal official.  Likely more to follow.

Governor Snyder stood up at the State of the State speech and said he takes responsibility. The responsibility he’s taking is the incompetence of those he’s in charge of. Not that he purposely tried to harm Flint residents, but that on his watch, his employees did not stand up for the people of Flint. This does not exonerate him. It is his responsibility to see that citizens of this state are protected. The City of Flint held one of their own accountable when they elected a new mayor and defeated the one in charge at the time of these events. A judge in Flint should take responsibility for his ruling. There are likely others. We may never find out as politics will likely play a role in covering people’s backsides as time goes on.

For Hillary to try to turn this into a racial matter is inflammatory at best. It’s a pretty good bet that she’ll try to make hay out of this leading up to the Michigan primary on March 8. Could we see the Black Lives Matter group in Flint because of this race baiting? Jesse Jackson has already been to Flint over this and Al Sharpton has made some noise as well. We only see them when they want to make it a racial event.

Below is a timeline and some sources. However, they are all press reports. What is written above is based on what’s reported from many sources over the past couple of weeks. But are the press sources reliable? Not likely as some report parts, but not other parts. Some want to finger out one side or the other politically.

This is not a political event. This is a government that’s too big that does not know, nor care about their responsibilities. If they did care, once they found out that there was a serious problem, which should have been approximately June of 2014, they should have gone immediately out in public and told the people of Flint, not to drink, nor bathe in the water. That there is a problem. The person that did that would have been in violation of whichever department he/she is in for making that announcement, but when it comes down to choosing between protecting citizens lives or satisfying some bloated bureaucracy, it would be nice to see the citizens side taken for a change and to heck with the government’s policies.

Is Ted Cruz Eligible to be President?

Ted Cruz, a Senator from Texas, is running for President of the United States. However, he was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His father was from Cuba but his mother was born in Delaware. Cruz’s real name is Rafael Edward Cruz. Ted is his nickname. His parents worked in the oil industry in Canada when he was born in 1970.

The question has been brought up lately about whether or not Cruz is a natural born citizen by virtue of his mother being a natural born United States citizen. Only a natural born citizen can be President of the United States.

Remember this came up in 2009 when Barack Hussein Obama became President. Some said he was born in Kenya, he said he was born in Hawaii and then there was the question of whether or not he gave up his citizenship while living in Indonesia because only those with citizenship in Indonesia could attend school. Those questioning the birthplace of Obama were called “birthers”. Donald Trump was the leading voice on this and it was finally settled when Obama finally released the full version of his birth certificate a few years later.

The best way to discover answers regarding this nation is to turn to the Constitution. The Constitution spells out eligibility for President.

In Article 2 section 1 it tells the requirements for being President:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Just about every place you look up this topic you’ll see a little sentence that says “The Constitution does not define the phrase “Natural born citizen.”  The definition is in the wording. Let’s break it down.

“No person except a natural born Citizen…” That, in and of itself does not define what a natural born citizen is So we’ll continue. “…or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President…” Now we have something to go on.

The Constitution was adopted on September 13, 1788. George Washington was elected President and his term began in 1789.

There is another requirement which is that the President must have reached the age of 35 and been a resident for fourteen years of the United States to have been elected.

The Constitution does define what a natural born citizen is by virtue of the fact that it states the difference between natural born citizen and a citizen. This is backed up by saying “been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

By this strict reading, Cruz would not be eligible to be President. If we separate it by the semi colon in the printing, it says, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United State, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; “   Stop; there. Cruz is not a natural born citizen, but he is a citizen of the United States having renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2014 making him only a citizen of the U.S.  Since we’re nowhere near the adoption of the Constitution, he couldn’t be eligible as a natural born citizen at the time of the adoption. This disclaimer comes up in the second half.

The Second half then says “…neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the age of 35 Years (Which Cruz does), and been fourteen years a resident of the United States”. Obviously, he’s been a resident for fourteen years but that’s negated by the “adoption of this Constitution”.

It doesn't say "in addition" it says "neither". The fourteen years is thought here to be because at the time of the adoption, many citizens were not born in America and the United States didn't exist until 12 years earlier. The oddity is that the first three Presidents were all born in the U.S. Washington in Virginia, Adams in Massachusetts and Jefferson in Virginia. That uses up the fourteen years.

Under this reading, George Romney should not have been eligible and Ted Cruz would not be eligible to hold the office of President of the United States. In addition, John McCain technically wouldn’t be eligible except that the only reason he was born out of the country was because they were with his father who was out of the country at the time in service of this nation. But if we follow the Constitution, there is no exception granted to that.

Please note, I’m not a lawyer nor a Constitutional Scholar. I’m just interested.

America Run Amok

The leaders of this country have run amok. They are not leaders. Give Donald Trump a lot of credit for bringing much of this to the forefront. Do not take that as an endorsement of Donald Trump because it’s not.

Trump has brought political correctness out in the open, thumbed his nose at it and made fun of the press as they tried to hammer him about being anti woman, anti muslim, and even anti American.

Planned parenthood is a good example and Trump must share that with Carly Fiorina as she was and is more vocal on the abuses of planned parenthood. Neither Trump nor Fiorina backed down when the press called Trump anti woman and accused Fiorina of talking about a non existant video showing a fetus with it’s heart still pumping, legs twitching while technicians discussed harvesting the brain and other body parts, which turned out to be true.

Hillary Clinton defended planned parenthood. President Obama and his administration defended planned parenthood. The Democrats  in both houses of congress defended planned parenthood. Who is defending the babies? Who is defending the mothers who thought they were aborting a fetus that wasn’t yet alive?  Thank God the Republicans control the House and can pass the budget without funding planned parenthood. All they have to do is get it through the Senate and let Obama veto it and the Republicans would not be blamed for shutting down the government because the majority of Americans are disgusted with planned parenthood.

The House Republicans put forth a bill that funded Obamacare for another year and funded planned parenthood! Politicians playing politics!

In San Bernardino, a Christmas party is attacked by a co-worker. Turns out it was a co-worker and his wife. We now know that the husband was born here, the wife came here on a special marriage visa. They were terrorists! Why didn’t the government figure out they were terrorists? With what we now know, they could have looked them up on facebook and figured it out.

Trump suggests that we should suspend all immigration of Muslims until we figure out how to screen them properly to protect American citizens on American soil. Immediately, the politicians, and the press call him a bigot for singling out a religion. Yet, we know that it’s radical Islamic extremists (a term the Democrats will not use) that are perpetrating the attacks all over the world. Why wasn’t Obama termed a bigot of religion when he talked about the religious right? Why isn’t the press labeled bigots when they talk about the Christian Conservative Extremists?

Today, a cop was shot point blank three times. He still managed to go after and shoot the terrorist. The terrorist admitted he was doing it for Islam but the Mayor claims he’s not a terrorist, but just a criminal. Political Correctness!

Hillary’s E-mail scandal grows today. She’s claimed that she neither sent nor received any mail on her personal server marked Classified. Today, we find out why. Late last night, the State Department released 3,007 E-mails and one showed Hillary instructing one of her advisors to remove the markings showing they were classified and send it to her. If the FBI decides to send a referral for charges it will go to the Justice Department to decide if they want to take action. Pay close attention here. Obama’s Justice Department will decide if the candidate for President from the Presidents own party should be indicted. Snowballs have a better chance of surviving 80 degree heat every day for the month of July.

Complaints are flying about the leader of the candidates in the Republican Party. Donald Trump. Those in their seats in the House and Senate don’t want him. They are trying to figure out how to get him out. Think about that. The American people are so far showing more interest in Donald Trump and the politicians don’t like it so they are trying to sabotage him somehow. The politicians are trying to thwart the will of the people!

Obama has decided to implement a form of gun control by expanding background checks. It doesn’t matter that none of his background check ideas would have stopped even one bullet from leaving a gun. He’s got to do something, anything , to show he’s doing something. However, he’s doing it. Congress isn’t doing it.

He claims he must do it by executive order because Congress won’t do it. That is not how we do things in this country. We have a Constitution that we’re supposed to follow. If Congress wants to pass a law that does no good, that’s up to them. But just because Obama disagrees with the outcome, it does not give him the right, nor the authority to write laws and enact them as executive orders. It’s called Separation of Powers and check and balances. Congress writes and passes law, the President signs or vetoes laws and the Supreme Court decides, based on the Constitution, whether those laws are Constitutional. No one branch is permitted to take over the other branches responsibilities.

On this site, we’re instituting our own political correctness which is actually a political reality and not political correctness. Hillary and Obama are labeling themselves “Progressives”. There is NOTHING about either of them that is progressive. It’s more accurate to call them “regressive”. However, here, they will be called extreme liberals, liberal extremists or just Liberals. Except for Bernie Sanders who will remain as he labels himself. Socialist.

The Republicans in office will not rock the boat. They will not state the obvious. They play the political correctness line. Recently, Hillary called Trump sexist. Think about that. Hillary Clinton is married to a man that has had women jumping out of closets. Gennifer Flowers was an admitted mistress to him. Juanita Broaderick said she was raped by Clinton and Hillary thanked her for staying quiet for so many years. Kathleen Willey reported that Clinton had groped her on the day that her husband died! Paula Jones sued him for his sexual advances and who can forget Monica Lewinski? A lawsuit was filed and settled where Clinton had to pay one of those he abused. He lost his license to practice law because of it. He was impeached! Hillary was active in enabling him in his extracurricular activities and she’s calling Donald Trump sexist? She is supposed to be the smartest woman alive according to the press in her past races. Did she really not think that Trump wouldn’t go after her enabling Bill Clinton? Do you liberals really want someone that stupid sitting in the White House?

Hillary spent 11 hours testifying before the Benghazi committee in October. The press praised her for her stamina in putting up with 11 hours of attacks from those evil Republicans only out for a witch hunt. They praised her!!! She was caught telling her daughter in an E-mail that the attack in Benghazi was a terrorist attack within hours of the attack! She was caught telling the prime minister of Egypt it was a terrorist attack. But hours later, and a couple of days later, when the caskets were flown to Andrews Air Force base and the families of the four dead were there, she then told the families that they would prosecute the maker of the video that caused the problem. She made a speech there saying it was due to a video. Yet later, she denied saying it was due to a video. She was caught lying!

Ted Cruz pointed this out to the moderators at the debate in December. Donald Trump pointed it out and Carly Fiorina has been pointing it out since May of last year.

The Republicans in DC? They are very quiet. They don’t want to upset anyone. It’s no wonder that the best debaters so far have been Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump, Ben Carson and even Ted Cruz, who is considered an outsider even though he’s a Senator.

This country is run amok. It’s going to be an eventful 2016!

You’re welcome to comment.
